Located within the Federal District, Mexico City International Airport (MEX) is the country's busiest airport by far, with passengers levels roughly double of those at Cancun's.

Serving roughly two million passengers every single month, Mexico City Airport boasts a ground transportation infrastructure capable of coping with this volume of traffic, comfortably, including a modern Metro train network. Taxis, buses and shuttles are also on hand to transport you to the city centre and suburbs such as Chimalhuacan, Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl, Ecatepec de Morelos, La Paz, Naucalpan and Tlalnepantla.

Metro

The Metro station at Mexico City Airport, located within easy walking distance of the baggage claim area, is a cheap and efficient service (preferably when travelling lightly), but can be very crowded at rush hour. To reach the station, marked with an 'M' sign, turn left out of Terminal 1 and walk past the car park - the metro station is on line 5.

For central Mexico City, change at Pantitlan (one stop) for line 1 and travel to Insurgentes. Trains run approximately every ten minutes and the service stops at around midnight, starting at 05:00 - Monday to Friday, 06:00 on Saturdays and 07:00 on Sundays.

Bus

Mexico City Airport is served by many regular public buses, connecting the city and other nearby towns such as Cuernavaca, Puebla, Pachuca, Querétaro, León and Irapuato. Buses run daily, departing from outside of the domestic terminal. Some routes operate until midnight.

Taxi Cabs

By taxi cab, the journey from Mexico City Airport into the city centre will take around 35 minutes. Most taxis seat four passengers, although an executive service exists, where up to eight passengers can be accommodated. Registered taxi companies in operation here include Confort, Nueva Imagen, Port Ejecutivo, Sitio 300 and Yellow Cab.

Passengers can obtain prepaid taxi tickets from Taxi Autorizado taxi counters in the Transportacion Terrestre (Ground Transportation) booth within the baggage reclaim area (tel: +52 5 571 9344).
